EMF (ElectroMagnetic Frequency) is a term more and more people are becoming aware of, as our everyday technology and electrical goods – from mobile phones to laptops to vacuum cleaners and hairdryers, emit this type of radiation. But you can do things to help reduce EMF exposure! Therefore,  I have chosen just 9 easy ways to reduce EMF exposure to share with you, as listed below.

EMF and Your Health

In my recent blog, Is Technology Affecting Your Health: The EMF Connection, I outlined information about EMF exposure and how this can create a whole host of health issues and symptoms from sleep disturbances, headaches, heart palpitations and skin issues to their connection with serious and life-threatening inflammatory diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Bottom line is, if you are reading this post, have electricity, electrical or battery operated devices and basically, live like billions of others on this planet, you are experiencing EMF exposure.  (Sorry).

Little Changes = Noticeable Improvement

Many people (myself included), have noticed improvements from better sleep and less headaches, to feeling less ‘fuzzy-headed’ almost immediately after implementing just a few of these easy ways to reduce exposure to EMF.

The downside? I am not going to lie to you.  Say bye-bye to some of the conveniences you have become accustomed to, but also, say hello, to potentially improving your health! 

I am also going to hold my hands up. I like technology.  I am typing on it right now, whilst checking Facebook and Messenger.  On Wi-Fi.  However, I have put some protection in place – on my body and in my home. (See #1 below).

As with everything, there is a happy medium, and convenience and living life is also important. It is all about finding the right balance.

The following are just 9 ways that I found as some ‘easy options’ to help reduce EMF exposure.

#1 Get EMF Neutralizers & Added Protection

Firstly, as with everything to do with improving your health, should you choose to ‘go the whole hog’ and you’re in the financial position to do so, you will find that there are countless and highly expensive options out there, that could potentially cost you thousands. 

However, there are options that can at least help to reduce your exposure that are available – and that are much more affordable.

eLink has a reputable name and good reviews on Amazon.  They offer a variety of different products including  EMF device protection stickers for your mobile phone, computers, tablets, pendants and EMF wireless protection neutralizer towers.

I use EMF protection stickers and I also use the eLink organite EMF protection pendant.  I certainly seem to sleep a bit better and notice reduced brain fog, as do other people, according to the Amazon reviews.

If you’re a laptop user, you may very well want to consider investing in a laptop EMF protection shield. How many times have you noticed the heat from your laptop eminating onto your lap/stomach area?  That heat may just be radiation… 

Ironically, laptops aren’t really safe for…lap tops.  If you look in the small print of your laptop user’s manual, you will probably find wording something to this effect: “Warning: Do not place on lap.” If a user’s manual actually indicates a warning like this, you know this is something you need to pay attention to. And if you research the subject, you’ll find that the FCC report regarding safety from EMFs back in 1996 states that  a laptop needs to be placed at least 20 cm from the body.

In fact, I did splurge a little bit (I am not sure if ‘splurge’ is the word, when I am attempting to protect myself and my family…) and purchased the eLink EMF Neutralizer Pack, as it was the cheapest option and provided us with a variety of products.

#2 Listen Safely

One of the (many) shocking discoveries I found out regarding harmful EMF devices was…headphones/earphones being MASSIVE EMF emitters. That’s right folks! The radiation that your mobile phone emits travels up the wires of your headphones and…into your brain.

However, I have also made a great discovery regarding what’s called ‘Airtubes’.  These are safe headphones that are patent-certified.

#3 ReduceWi-Fi Exposure

It is important to understand that anything that is wireless or digital is going to emit higher levels of EMF vs devices that are plugged in.

As mentioned above about ‘dirty electricity’, Wi-Fi certainly emits this at a much greater rate than when home computer networks are plugged in with permanent cords.  I know. Easier said than done.  That’s the thing, once we’ve experienced the glorious connectivity of Wi-Fi there’s no going back, is there?!

However, Gittleman recommends that if you need to keep wi-fi, just make sure it’s “at least three rooms away from where you spend most of your time, and especially your bedroom.” (source)

Yah. That’s probably not going to happen in our home.  However, the compromise is to shut down the Wi-Fi router before going to sleep, so at the very least, EMFs are not occurring when we sleep.

#4 Be Smart with Your Smart Phone

As you probably have figured out, holding a mobile phone next to your ear (and brain) isn’t that clever.  Several tips:

  • Keep your phone on ‘airplane mode’ to turn off signals going to and from the device as much as possible. 
  • Use a hands-free wireless air tube. The Tuisy air tubes, as mentioned above also have a microphone, so you can listen to music and use it for your phone, too!
  • Text vs call as a ‘safer’ option.

#5 Get Rid of Cordless Phones & Baby Monitors

You may not even own a home phone these days, many people don’t!

Telephone clip artIf you do, consider getting an old fashioned one – you know.  With a cord.  They emit EMFs – even when not in use.  Try to replace the baby monitor as well, with an older version that comes with a cord (if possible).

At the very, very least, move the phone and monitor further away from the bed. (Yep, most of us have our phones and baby monitors near where we all sleep!).  Instead of cutting the cord, get one!

#6 Nuke the Nuker

Chances are you have already heard about how unsafe microwaves are. How they can leak radiation, not to mention absolutely mess with your food molecules, and remove any iota of nutrition.  (Although admittedly, there might not be that much nutrition in a bag of microwave popcorn…).

#7 Earthing

Yep. Good old Mother Earth is where it is at regarding reducing the free radicals created by dirty electricity and other toxins are then neutralised by the earth’s free electrons and inflammation is halted.

#8 EMF ‘hot spots’ – Move Your Furniture Away!

Walls in your home may protect you from noise, outside walls from bad weather…but the one protection your walls won’t provide you is from EMF exposure.

Consider moving your furniture, particularly your bed, away from walls – that’s where your wiring resides, and is also a source of EMFs.  (Ps.  If your bed/mattress has a metal component, then compareit to a lightning rod regarding attraction to EMFs).

#9 Splash Out on a New LCD TV

Finally…some good news!

There is a (small) silver lining to this black EMF cloud regarding technology!!! Replacing your old, box-style TV with a new LCD flat screen actually emits lower EMF radiation.  That’s right!  The ultimate  reason to splash out on that new TV! It’s for your and your family’s health! 🙂

But seriously, the LCD screen TV emits approximately 2mG of radiation from just a 6 inch distance, whilst an CRT (big, box-style) TV emits a 4-5mG radiation level from 2 feet away. (Source)
